Energy & Motivation

Want to ensure you have the greatest chance of achieving your goals?

You are in the right place!

Who amongst us couldn’t use the help of extra energy to get through the daily routine and onto the list of things we want to get done? Contemporary life is full of flashing lights and distractions and each of them comes at a cost to a part of our energy.

In the 16 waking hours we have available a day, how many do you get to spend on things that bring you satisfaction?

Studies have shown that Burnout – the mental and physical exhaustion you experience when the demands of your work consistently exceed the amount of energy you have available - has been called the “epidemic of the modern workplace”.

Do you recognise the concept of burnout? Are you spending too much time scrolling through your smartphone or other digital devices outside of working hours? Do you constantly feel tired, low in energy levels or lack the ability to focus and concentrate?

Essential Oils for Energy

Whilst there is nothing like a good night’s sleep to prepare you for the day ahead, there are many and various internal and external factors that play a role in how motivated we feel during the day.

Even if you are not feeling tired, you may find that your mind wanders off at work or that you lack the energy to go to the exercise class that you know will make you feel better… if you can just summon the motivation to get there.

A Quick Pick-Me-Up

Try mixing a drop each of Peppermint essential oil and Wild Orange essential oil together in the palms of your hands.

Place your hands over your mouth and nose (avoiding contact with your skin or your eyes) - and inhale a few deep breaths. This is heavenly, right?

The Peppermint essential oil really opens the airways and invigorates the mind whilst the Wild Orange essential oil has powerful calming effects.

Now rub the residue on the back of your neck for an extra bit of ZING.

Rina uses this quick pick-me up to combat her 3pm energy slump whilst ploughing through paperwork at her desk or preparing for a long afternoon in court.

Supplements and Cellular Energy

Are your energy levels seriously waning? Would you like to boost your energy levels?

To help you stay energised and motivated, why not try something from our range of supplements? Both Rina and Sylvia are huge advocates of the Lifelong Vitality supplements and take them daily. With essential nutrients, metabolism benefits and powerful antioxidants, these supplements work together to promote energy, health and lifelong vitality.

Do you need to get out the big guns? Rina recommends Mito2Max – the energy and stamina complex:

“Mito2Max is a proprietary formula of metabolic cofactors and standardised plants extracts for mitochondrial energy. They support healthy mitochondrial function and aerobic metabolism without the use of harmful stimulants. Mito2Max can be used as a healthy long-term alternative to caffeinated drinks and supplements for increased energy and vitality”.

As someone who previously survived on coffee and ProPlus during times of high stress, Rina cannot praise these natural supplements highly enough.

Improving your Mood and Concentration

We can make several recommendations for essential oils to assist with improving your mood and concentration.

Basil Essential Oil

Basil essential oil can be used all three ways – topically, internally and aromatically. It is known as the oil of renewal and can assist if you are feeling anxious, weary, overwhelmed, tired, drained and exhausted.

Studies have shown that Basil essential oil is also effective in boosting memory retention and in assisting those who suffer from stress and anxiety. Reducing stress levels is one of the ways that you can improve your concentration!

Diffusing Basil essential oil and Lime essential oil together is great for improving your mood and giving you a boost (start with one drop of Basil and two or three of Lime). You can also add a drop of each to traditional-style cloudy lemonade for a refreshing drink.

Basil essential oil blends well with Lime essential oil, Bergamot essential oil, Lemon essential oil, Peppermint essential oil and Wintergreen essential oil.

Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary essential oil is known as the oil of knowledge and transition and can assist with mental clarity.

At Dotty’s we always recommend that students or those revising for and sitting exams use a combination of Rosemary essential oil and Lemon essential oil to aid concentration. This combination is ideal when diffused or when applied topically to the pulse points.

When revising – apply Rosemary essential oil and Lemon essential oil to the temples (why not make a roller bottle with Fractionated Coconut Oil for ease of application?) and then repeat when you are sitting the exam.

Rosemary essential oil blends well with Basil essential oil, Eucalyptus essential oil, Peppermint essential oil, Lavender essential oil and Lemon essential oil.

Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon essential oil is known as the oil of focus and so it is deserving of a place in this list! Its citrusy aroma is said to “nourish the mind and aid concentration”.

As you can see above, we recommend using Lemon essential oil in conjunction with Rosemary essential oil if you are preparing for or sitting exams.

On a scientific level, it contains Monoterpenes like Limonene making Lemon essential oil an uplifting oil, boosting energy levels and helping you to overcome fatigue.

We use it aromatically (it blends well with Ginger essential oil, Lavender essential oil, Lime essential oil, Peppermint essential oil and Rosemary essential oil) and take it internally.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is the oil of communication and it is said to aid verbal expression. Although widely recognised for its warm, comforting aroma and its calming effects, Lavender essential oil has the ability to calm the nervous system, which can promote clearer thinking and decision-making.

Whilst Rina tends to use Lavender at bedtime, Sylvia finds that Lavender makes her feel awake and alert and she wouldn’t dare use it at bedtime for that very reason!

Lavender essential oil blends well with Clary Sage essential oil, Frankincense essential oil, Wild Orange essential oil and Peppermint essential oil.

Zendocrine

An essential oil blend called Zendocrine (the restart blend) promotes increased energy through removing sluggish toxins in your system. It is available as an essential oil and also in as a softgel.

InTune

Another essential oil blend - InTune (the focus blend) - will aid your concentration and allow you to finish what you started, whether it is in a business or personal capacity. You know that feeling when your house is spotless because you are avoiding doing that piece of work that is sitting there waiting for you? Swipe some InTune on your pulse points and get ready to focus your focus!

You are what you Eat (and Drink!)

Fed up of drinking water on its own but equally, want to avoid sugary drinks and cordials?

We all know that we should be eating a balanced and healthy diet and that we should be drinking lots of water daily, keeping caffeinated drinks and alcohol to a minimum.

To jazz up your water (it’s sparkling for Rina and still for Sylvia) add a drop or a few drops of essential oil to your glass. Ideally, add a drop first and then add the water.

Green Mandarin or Smart & Sassy are super refreshing and are well worth a try. You can ingest any of the citrus oils such as Wild Orange essential oil, Lemon essential oil, Grapefruit essential oils, Lime essential oil or Tangerine essential oil.

As always, and because essential oils are very powerful, start low and go slow! One drop of essential oil is often enough to flavour many refills of your glass of water.

At Dotty’s, we also use essential oils in our daily cooking - we use Oregano essential oil, Marjoram essential oil, Thyme essential, Lemongrass essential oil… in fact the list goes on. There are over 30 essential oils that you can use to flavour your sweet and savoury dishes.
